The Beach: Friday, July 23rd

Last night we went to Huntington, and it was great!  We all had a chance to share what God has been teaching us lately, and what we’ve been reading in our devotional times.

We had a beach fire, though we had to wait a little while to obtain a fire pit.  Some of us went to Ruby’s for dinner, and some of us sought cheaper fare, and found a new restaurant called Bomb Burger, “where the service and food are bomb”, as one of our students said.

One of our students also brought up a discussion he had with his Mormon friends who just came back from mission in a Spanish-speaking culture.  So we had a great discussion about their questions and objections about Protestant and Catholic churches, mostly concerning the validity of Mormon prophecy.

I’m excited to hear all that God is doing in the students who attend Mag, and I am blessed to be working among these students.

As You Prepare to Go Overseas….

Mr. Krabs’ views on money…

Mr. Krabs holding a dollar bill

Wait! Don’t shoot! Okay, okay, shoot me, but don’t take me money!”

Give to the Children’s fund? What have the children ever done for me?”

“Well, maybe not. All you need to do is get your confidence back, so you can make me more money… er, I mean, patties. He-he.”

“Am I really going to defile a grave for money? Of course I am.”

Some of you are going overseas on a team this Summer, and one of the biggest concerns for you is money.  I know how you feel, because Rosemarie and I have the same issue.  We are going overseas to teach teachers English on a whole new level!  Hopefully I can hang – I’m not too sure.  But one thing I do know – fund-raising is nerve-wracking work.

However, our Father did not create us to worry about money.  We work for it, and we use it, but most of the time it seems like it’s the other way around.  It uses and works us.  We worry about finances for our trip, yet go to the movies, buy coffee, the latest games, the sexiest pants…what have you.  Truth be told, many others are sacrificing these same things so you may minister to others. This puts a ton of pressure on us.

Rose and I donated $2,ooo to our own trip, because we believe it’s important.  Do I want a PS3?  Heck yes.  I played Call of Duty once and have been drooling ever since.  Do I want a new car?  If you’ve ridden in my jankity Cavalier and had the broken glove box door fall on your knees, or seen the botched Bondo job on the side, you know the answer to this one.  Are we saving up for a house?  Oh yes.  Still, we have a higher call of duty than any of these things.  It’s a major sacrifice for us, but it’s nothing compared to what the Son has sacrificed on our behalf.

As you prepare to leave this Summer, think of these things, and the sacrifices others have made on your behalf, and be thankful.  God uses money, but he cares about souls. How about you?

New Sunday Table Group Series

New Sunday Bible Study Series

“Sent” by Ed Stetzer

"Sent" book

"Sent" book

“By definition the church is a body of believers sent into the world.  But many churches, particularly in the United States, seem to have developed a more stationary identity.  We have issued the call of ‘come to us’ and planted our feet rather than promising a ‘we’re coming to you’ proven by moving our feet.”  — Ed Stetzer, Sent, Introduction.

WHO: Any College-Age Student!

Whether you’re from Mag, RCC, UCR, CSUSB, or CBU, you can find students like you to connect with on Sunday mornings!

WHY: To Connect!

With the diversity we have at Magnolia Avenue, it can be hard to connect to other college-age students.  Here you can meet people and develop meaningful connections with other Christians your age.

WHAT:  A series on faith beyond church walls

It’s a series based off the book written by Ed Stetzer named Sent, and it takes us through the process of learning how to become natural ministers of the gospel through actively seeking others like Jesus.  Check it out!

WHEN: Every Sunday morning at 9:30AM

WHERE: the Magnolia Room (across from the Worship Center)

See you there!
